Nollywood movies Jagun Jagun and The Weekend each gained a number of awards on the just lately concluded 2024 Africa Film Academy Awards.
The twentieth version of the awards, hosted by veteran Nollywood actor Segun Arinze and Ghanaian TV host and actress Joselyn Dumas, was held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, on the Balmoral Conference Centre in Lagos State.
In keeping with data obtained from its web site, the AMAA was established in 2005 to facilitate the event and relevance of African movie and cinema by offering a platform for the reward and recognition of filmmakers on the continent.
The Weekend, directed by Daniel Oriahi, gained AMAA awards for Finest Movie, Achievement in Cinematography, amongst others.
The movie featured outstanding figures within the Nigerian movie trade, together with Keppy Ekpenyong-Bassey, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, and Gloria Anozie, amongst others.
Versatile actor and producer Femi Adebayo bagged the award for Finest Actor in a Supporting Function in Jagun Jagun.
The action-packed Yoruba movie was directed by Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo and featured Lateef Adedimeji, Faithia Williams, Odunlade Adekola, and Ibrahim Yekini, amongst others.
The 12-member jury committee for the awards was chaired by filmmaker and author Dorothee Wenner, together with former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Tradition in Lagos, Steve Ayorinde, amongst others.
